The fabled Book of Darkness & Light is letting loose an unholy trinity of hidden horrors at Harrogate Theatre next month.
Three gruesome tales of terror to hit Harrogate Theatre Three “grippingly gruesome” tales of terror are coming to Harrogate Theatre as part of a spine-tingling new show. Unhomely: Three Tales of Terror delivers a trio of stories, each with a different house at its heart. It’s been created by The Book of Darkness & Light and will be scaring Harrogate Theatre audiences from Wednesday 10th until Saturday 13th April. Aimed at audiences aged 14+, the show tells stories of murder, witchcraft and childhood monsters. Writer Adam Z Robinson, who also plays The Storyteller, said:
"Unhomely includes the scariest stories I've ever written. The tales really embrace the horror but, at the same time, they have lots of heart. “You might be tearing up one moment and then jumping out of your seat in fright the next. “Horror – particularly in theatre – is best when experienced with a crowd of people. I love that about it, that shared sense of jeopardy. “It's so thrilling to experience the tension and the shocks together. I just can't wait for people to see the show."The show combines chilling storytelling, an original score, fully integrated British Sign Language and Visual Vernacular to create a thrilling theatrical experience. Amy Helena, who plays The Wraith, said:
“Visual Vernacular is a really graphic style of storytelling. It makes everything more terrifying. "I think it will have a unique impact on the audience. You won't see anything quite like this anywhere else."The cast also includes Duffy as The Preacher, while the creative team comprises Director Dick Bonham, Composer & Sound Designer Guy Connelly, BSL Creative Director Jean St Clair, Designer Emma Williams, BSL Dramaturg Jeni Draper, Lighting Designer Tim Skelly, and Technical Stage Manager Matt Sykes-Hooban. The show also includes woodcut images by illustrator and designer Richard Wells. He is primarily known for his TV and film work, including graphic props for Sherlock, Doctor Who, Dracula, and the upcoming Sony Pictures horror film Tarot. He is also editor and illustrator of folk horror anthology Damnable Tales and, in 2022, illustrated the novelisation of 70s cult horror film Blood on Satan's Claw.
