New data has revealed that North Yorkshire Council has received over £1.1million from residential parking permits since 2020.
Figures obtained through a Freedom of Information (FOI) request by cinch show the council has collected a total of £1,169,283.
Data also shows permit numbers have remained stable over the past five years, averaging around 8,860 permits annually.
Here’s how much North Yorkshire Council has generated from parking permits over the last five years:
- 2020: £222,986
- 2021: £229,723
- 2022: £231,872
- 2023: £215,422
- 2024: £269,280
Revenue peaked in 2024 following a permit price rise from £30 to £36, which came into effect on 1st April 2024.
Sam Sheehan, motoring editor at cinch, said:
“Parking permits can be great for making sure residents have somewhere to park near their homes, but there should be a balance between affordability and accessibility.
“Our research shows that parking permits are getting more expensive across the UK, putting extra financial strain on residents already dealing with rising living costs.
“Multi-car households are often the most affected. Second and third permits come at a premium and can be as much as four times more expensive than a first permit in some areas.”
