New installation unveiled in Knaresborough ahead of VE Day

A new installation has been unveiled outside Knaresborough House.

A new silhouette tribute has been installed in Knaresborough ahead of VE Day next week.

To mark the 80th anniversary, the Mayor of Knaresborough Margy Longhurst joined some of the students from Craft and Social to launch the installation outside Knaresborough House.

VE Day will be celebrated on 8th May to mark 80 years since the end of World War II in Europe.

A spokesperson for Knaresborough Town Council said:

“We wish to thank all the students and staff at Craft and Social for making this beautiful silhouette as part of our town’s commemoration of VE Day 80th Anniversary.

“We hope many residents and visitors will be able to enjoy this brilliant installation over the next week as the silhouette stands outside Knaresborough House as part of the town’s celebration and remembrance.”

The spokesperson added:

“VE Day 80 is not only a tribute to those who fought for freedom but also a powerful reminder of the resilience and unity that have defined our country ever since.”

Knaresborough Town Council is holding a VE Day 80th Anniversary community event in the Castle grounds from 6pm on Thursday 8th May.

Residents are invited to join them for a shared moment of celebration and reflection to commemorate the historic national anniversary.

The event will conclude with the lighting of the beacon at the town War Memorial.
