New Headteacher appointed at Harrogate prep school A Harrogate school has welcomed a new head teacher - with his arrival providing a springboard for the launch of extra enrichment opportunities for its pupils. As Mr Phil Soutar takes the helm as Head of Ashville Prep School, a new partnership has been unveiled that will bring benefits for the Prep School, as well as Ashville Acorns Pre-Prep for children aged 2 to 5. The school has become a member of the Independent Schools Association (ISA), a body committed to promoting educational excellence. Being part of the ISA will bring many benefits for pupils. These include widening opportunities to take part in regional and national events for sport, art, music and drama at world-leading venues - such as the London Olympic Park. The ISA is a body that Mr Soutar knows well – he has been its national Chair for the past year after being elected to the role by more than 600 independent school heads across the UK. Mr Soutar, who has dedicated his career to inspiring and nurturing younger pupils from age 2 to 11, said:
“It’s great to be here and see the school burst into life at the start of the new academic year. “I am already immensely proud to be part of the Ashville family, and thank pupils, parents and colleagues for their warm Yorkshire welcome. “I look forward to leading the Prep School on the next phase of its development journey, and sharing my vision for the year ahead when our focus will centre on optimising creativity, excellence and opportunity for every pupil.”He added:
“Becoming a member of the ISA will help us deliver these aims by opening up a greater range of activities and creative experiences for our children.”Mr Soutar was previously Head at the prestigious Rosemead Prep School and Nursery in Dulwich, South London, for the past six years. He has specialised in independent preparatory education throughout a career spanning more than two decades. This has also included posts as Deputy Headmaster at Ackworth Junior School, near Pontefract, and Headmaster at St Wystan’s Prep School in Repton, Derbyshire. The school is looking forward to welcoming families to visit on Saturday 30 September for its next open morning, providing the opportunity to see the outstanding facilities and meet the engaging teachers and pupils. More information relating to the open morning can be found on the school website: www.ashville.co.uk/open-morning-sept-2023/ Read more local stories from Your Harrogate here.
