A brand new adventure is set to unfold across Harrogate town centre, inviting families, gamers and collectors to take part in free mystery card hunt.
Launching today (23rd May) and running until 7th June, the hunt will see limited-edition collectible cards hidden at locations throughout the town, waiting to be discovered.
It’s been created ahead of the Odyssey Video Games and Toy Festival, which will run at The Old Swan Hotel on 31st May and 1st June.
The trail, titled ‘The Evil Hydrobyte’, will follow the story of an evil force that has come to steal Harrogate’s water.
A spokesperson for Odyssey said:
“This isn’t just any hunt - it’s a battle for Harrogate’s survival.
“An evil force is threatening Harrogate’s most precious resource.
“Hydrobyte, a sinister villain, has arrived to steal the town’s water, draining its vitality and leaving chaos in his wake. But all is not lost.
“The Valley Guardians—a powerful team of heroes—have been assembled to fight back and save Harrogate from Hydrobyte’s grasp.”
Eight mystery cards will be hidden around town, as visitors are invited to find seven Guardians and one final card featuring the villain himself.
The guardians have been designed by the children at Bilton Grange Primary School.

Taking part
- Start the Hunt – Visit participating venues around Harrogate to find FREE collectible cards.
- Discover the Heroes – Can you track down all 7 Valley Guardians before Hydrobyte takes control?
- Locate Hydrobyte Himself – The villain lurks in town—but where?
Each card unlocks a piece of the story, and the final mystery card will be waiting at Odyssey Gaming Festival on May 31st & June 1st.
The event, sponsored by Harrogate BID, is designed to bring families into local venues, boosting foot traffic while offering a fun and free experience for the community.
