Harrogate Race for Life raises £120,000 for cancer research

More than 800 people took part in this year's Race for Life in Harrogate.

It was another hugely successful Race for Life event in Harrogate over the weekend, with organisers expecting the fundraising total to top £120,000.

The Harrogate Race for Life is one of hundreds that take place across the the UK to fundraise for Cancer Research UK.

It returned to the Stray on Sunday (20th July) with 863 participants choosing to take on a 3k, 5k or 10k route.

And this year’s Harrogate event was able to raise £120,593 - with £76,783 from sponsorship alone.

Laura Cass, Senior Area Event Manager for Cancer Research UK, said:

“This fundraising can make a real, lasting difference.

“Work at the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute spans the whole spectrum of cancer research, from programmes investigating the molecular basis of cancer to those focused on developing new treatments.

“World-class facilities in the institute, including the imaging and histology labs, are helping to pave the way for new discoveries.”

She added:

“There are 8 research groups at the Manchester Institute and the money raised so far from Harrogate Race for Life alone will cover the cost of funding a research group there for 1 month.

“It may not sound like much, but it will make a huge difference to so many people's lives!”
