Harrogate mum raises £10,000 for charity after devastating brain tumour diagnosis A Harrogate mum has raised more than £10,000 for charity following a devastating brain tumour diagnosis. 38-year-old Sheena Blake was diagnosed with a stage four incurable brain tumour on 28th June. After initially going to hospital with a severe headache, she was told she had glioblastoma - an inoperable brain tumour - just days later. But since her diagnosis, the mum of two, who works as a Teaching Assistant in Harrogate, has been working tirelessly to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity. Sheena has raised more than £10,000 in just over one month. Speaking in an emotional video posted on her social media, Sheena said:
“I spoke to my husband and I’ve decided I need a focus, and I’m not going anywhere without a fight. “I’m determined to do some good. It might not be able to save me but it absolutely might be able to save someone else. “Right now I’ve not started my treatment, so my focus is to try and raise as much money as possible. “I want to raise as much money for the Brain Tumour Charity for people that are much brighter than me to find different ways - this can’t happen to more people.”Sheena has two daughters, aged 12 and 15, and has been married for 16 years. She is hopeful that radiotherapy and chemotherapy will stunt the growth of the tumour for as long as possible. Contribute to her fundraising campaign here. Yorkshire Three Peaks In response to Sheena’s fundraising efforts, a group of her friends are taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks to raise money for her and her family. Launched by friend Clare Allen, the challenge will take place on 15th October. The group of 12 will carry an 80kg weighted stretcher on their journey - something that has never been done before - with the hope of breaking a Guinness World Record in the process. Clare said:
“Whilst Sheena has been completely selfless raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity, we would like to raise as much money as we can to help Sheena and her family to not only have the money to get through, but also be able to make as many memories with her family as possible. “Everyone is welcome to come and support the event whether thats walking one or three mountains or just waiting at the bottom to cheer us on. “Any donation of any amount would be very much appreciated and would help reach our goal. Please share this fundraising link with your friends and family and we would be very grateful.”Follow the challenge from the ‘Peaky Zappers’ via Instagram here.
