Residents are being invited to take part in a series of letter-writing events at RHS Garden Harlow Carr to mark World Cancer Day 2026.
The workshops are being organised by From Me to You, a national charity that supports people affected by cancer through handwritten letters of kindness.
They will take place on Saturday 7th February as part of the charity’s 24-hour Letter Writing Marathon.
Two sessions will be held, running from 10am to 12 noon and from 1pm to 3pm. Participants will be guided through the process of writing a supportive letter to someone living with cancer, with prompts and encouragement provided throughout the workshop.
From Me to You uses handwritten letters to help reduce the sense of isolation many cancer patients experience. Through its Donate A Letter programme, letters written by volunteers are sent to people affected by cancer across the UK and beyond.
The charity says it processed more than 17,000 letters for patients over the past year.
The Harrogate workshops will be led by charity trustee Lucy Hind and form part of the charity’s wider 24-hour online Letter Writing Marathon, which runs from 9am on Saturday 7th February to 9am on Sunday 8th February.
The online event brings together participants from around the world to write letters of support for people affected by cancer.
From Me to You Trustee, Lucy Hind, who has organised the workshops said:
“Cancer can be incredibly isolating, and many people struggle to know what to say. These workshops are about giving people the confidence to put pen to paper and create a genuine moment of connection.
"We’re thrilled to be hosting these events at RHS Harlow Carr and welcoming the Harrogate community to be part of something really meaningful.”
Each two-hour workshop costs £10 per person and includes complimentary light refreshments, a stationery box to take home, guided support and prompts to help participants write a letter, and access to RHS Garden Harlow Carr for the remainder of the day.
Places at both workshops are limited and booking is essential. Tickets for the morning session are available at https://buytickets.at/frommetoyou/2017723, while tickets for the afternoon session can be booked at https://buytickets.at/frommetoyou/2019610.
