Harrogate Army Foundation College rated 'outstanding' for second consecutive year

Harrogate's Army Foundation College has maintained it's 'outstanding' rating by Ofsted four years after being awarded the grade.

Harrogate's Army Foundation College has maintained it's 'outstanding' rating by Ofsted. The college was given the highest grade by Ofsted in 2017. And following an inspection four years later, the college has been named as one of just two establishments rated outstanding in all four key judgement areas. The inspection of AFC contributes to Ofsted’s 13th annual report, which assesses the effectiveness of care and welfare arrangements for recruits, trainees and officer cadets in Armed Forces initial training. A spokesperson for the college said:

"Inspectors found that recruits make excellent progress at the college, developing their military, professional and personal skills. "The training curriculum is ambitious and enables recruits, where needed, to improve their English, maths and information technology skills. As a result, the proportion of recruits who pass their initial stage of training is high."
Inspectors also noted that living quarters for recruits are clean and well maintained and that the classrooms are modern and well equipped. They also praised the 'extensive' physical training facilities, used 'extremely skilfully' by physical training staff to develop recruits’ fitness, stamina and resilience.
