Harewood Bridge is set to close for four weeks starting next month, causing a long diversion and lengthy delays for motorists.
Harewood Bridge closure to cause 15-mile diversion and 30 minute delays An upcoming 4-week closure of Harewood Bridge is set to cause lengthy delays for motorists with a 15-mile diversion in place. The bridge, which is used by around 17,000 vehicles each day, will be closed in both directions for works between Wednesday 26th July and Thursday 24th August. Essential maintenance and waterproofing work will be carried out to coincide with the school summer holidays, when there is considered to be reduced levels of traffic. Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to cross the bridge during the four weeks, managed by the on-site construction team. But motorists will face a 15-mile diversion along Otley Road towards Pool in Wharfedale, adding around 30 minutes to their journey. Councillor Helen Hayden, Leeds City Council’s executive member for infrastructure and climate, said:
“By carrying out the repair works during the school summer holidays we can hopefully limit the disruption with expected lower traffic levels. “We apologise in advance for the potential disruption and ask road users for their patience. The works are essential for the long-term maintenance of this vital crossing between Harrogate and Leeds.”Check out upcoming road works planned for the Harrogate District via the North Yorkshire Council website here.
