'Hand yourself in': Parents of teen killed in hit-and-run plea to driver

19-year-old Bailey Chadwick was killed in a suspected hit-and-run incident.

The grieving family of 19-year-old Bailey Chadwick have made a heart-wrenching appeal to the driver involved in his suspected hit-and-run.

Bailey, who was described by loved ones as a “happy and outgoing” young man, was killed while walking between Pateley Bridge and Glasshouses after working a shift at a local pub in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police believe he was crossing the road when he was struck by a vehicle travelling west between 1.44am and 3.10am.

Emergency services were called to the scene, but the driver did not stop.

A full collision investigation was launched, including forensic examinations, and North Yorkshire Police continue to work to identify the vehicle and the person behind the wheel.

In a statement today (Wednesday) and speaking through tears, Bailey’s mum, Dayle Knights, said:

“No words can express how absolutely devastated we are.

"Bailey was just a normal, happy, outgoing 19-year-old lad who had his whole life ahead of him.”

Bailey's stepfather, Daniel Horler, added:

"Bailey should be living his best life seeing a new country, exploring new people but instead he was left alone to die.

“Bailey was torn away from us all at such a young age. The fact that someone knows who was driving that night is heartbreaking for all of us.

“Please if it’s you, do the right thing and speak to the police. Please if you have any information that will help trace the person responsible, please help.

“If you have any empathy within you whatsoever, it’s the least you can do.”

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident, seen a vehicle with new damage, or has relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to email the Major Collision Investigation Team at mcit@northyorkshire.police.uk or call 101, quoting reference 12250133851.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or visit their website to make a report, again quoting the same reference.
