Halloween fun from the comfort of your own home

Just because you can't go from house to house trick-or-treating, it doesn't mean you can't have some family fun at home!

With Covid-19 restrictions suggesting trick-or-treating is a no-go, Halloween might be slightly different for the kids this year.

But just because they can't go from house to house in the hunt for treats, it doesn't mean you can't have some family fun at home!

Here's some spooky ideas to have an eventful Halloween without leaving the house:

Spooky movie night

This one's a classic. Grab yourself some popcorn and gather in front of the TV for Halloween movie night! Some family-friendly flicks that will be perfect for Halloween include: Harry Potter, Toy Story of Terror, The Adams Family, Room on the Broom, Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest, Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie, Casper and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Don’t forget to check the age advice before viewing to avoid more frights than you bargained for!

Hide sweets around the house

If your kids just can't get trick-or-treating off their mind, there's always the option to do some treat hunting around the house! Hide some treats in different places and leave clues for the kids to follow.

You could even play some spooky tunes while the kids are searching to set the mood, and give them torches if you want to do it in the dark!

Pumpkin carving contest on zoom

If you haven't already, carving a pumpkin is a great way to get into the Halloween spirit! Then once your finished, in true lockdown fashion, why not let your kids display their artwork on Zoom for all their friends to see!

And if you really want to ramp up the Halloween theme, you could turn it into a fancy dress competition as well...

Play Halloween Games

There are a few Halloween games that the kids will absolutely love that the whole family can get involved in: Wrap the Mummy - You're going to need lots of toilet roll and an unsuspecting volunteer... Halloween Bean Bag Toss - Aim for the wide mouth of a previously-carved pumpkin! Halloween Bingo - Use Halloween themed characters instead of numbers (pumpkins, skeletons, cats) Mystery Box Game - You're going to need a blindfold, a box and something icky for the kids to feel! (jelly, playdough etc.) [caption id="attachment_2757" align="aligncenter" width="2560"] Stock up on toilet roll and see who can make the best 'mummy'![/caption]

Halloween Crafts

If your house isn't already covered in Halloween decorations - it's time to make some! Cut an apple in half and dip it in orange paint to create a stamp - you can then print this onto paper plates and design your own pumpkins! Add glitter and string to dangle them around the house. Halloween Party Food

There are plenty of foods that you can shape into Halloween themed treats - think hot dogs as fingers, oranges as pumpkins, and ketchup can be the blood. Serve up a nice Halloween themed spread and really get into the spooky spirit!

And there you have it - Halloween at home! Trick-or-treating may be off the cards this year, but spooky fun with the family certainly isn't!
