Gareth Southgate and teams took part in a fundraising padel tournament for Martin House Hospice.
Around 60 people competed in the first Martin House Padel Open, which was held at Surge Padel.
The event raised approximately £6,500 for Martin House Children’s Hospice.
Participants included Gareth Southgate, who is also an ambassador for the charity.
Two leagues took part in the tournament, with a competitive division and a social division running alongside each other.
The event also included refreshments provided by Yorkshire Tea and a buffet for participants, while the tournament was organised by Padel 4 The People.
The competitive tournament was won by Richard Watts and Alexis Twigg, while the social competition was won by Matt Welsh and Dan Ross.
Pamela Newby said organisers were pleased with the response to the event.
“We’re thrilled with the success of our first Padel Open – everyone who took part had an incredible time, and we received so much positive feedback from the players.
“We want to say a huge thank you to everyone for making it such an enormous success, and to our trustee Will Linley for supporting the event from the outset.”
Martin House provides specialist palliative care and support for children and young people with life-shortening conditions, as well as their families, across West, North and East Yorkshire.
Its services include short breaks, symptom management and end-of-life care.
Pamela added that fundraising events also help raise awareness of the charity’s work.
“Families rely on the specialist support our clinical team provide 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
“That’s why it’s so important that events like these not only raise money for Martin House, but give us the opportunity to talk to businesspeople from around Yorkshire about the impact they can have when they partner with us.”
The event was sponsored by Apollo Capital Group.
Managing director David Moss said the company was pleased to support the fundraiser.
“We are proud to continue our support of Martin House and were delighted to sponsor their first Padel Open,” he said.
“It was a great evening and nice to see everyone enjoying themselves whilst at the same time supporting a local charity.
"We were delighted to play a small part in the event; it is truly a great cause.”
