A dementia-friendly cinema screening is returning to Harrogate today (Monday) as part of Dementia Awareness Week.
Harrogate care organisation Home Instead is hosting a screening of hit musical ‘Mamma Mia’, with low lights and lowered volume to create a comfortable environment.
It will be held at Harrogate’s Everyman Cinema at 11am.
It's part of Dementia Awareness Week - an annual week hosted by Alzheimer's Society on the third Monday of May.
Sheena Van Parys, Director at Home Instead Harrogate, said:
“This is an annual awareness week and this year the focus is on diagnosis.
“Diagnosis is vital to give people access to the care, treatment and support they desperately need. Yet, incredibly, 1 in 3 people with dementia do not have a diagnosis.
“If you are worried about yourself, or someone close to you, get help describing your symptoms to a GP by filling in the symptom’s checklist available from The Alzheimer’s Society.”
Home Instead in Harrogate have copies of the checklist available to collect from their office in Ripley.
