Whether you want to get out of the house as a family or just want to walk more, here are our Top 5 Winter walks around Harrogate!

In a time of lockdowns and tiers, there's nothing better than a Winter walk around the beautiful Harrogate area to take your mind off things. Whether your New Year's Resolution is to walk more or you just want to get out as a family for some fresh air, there's more than a few places we'd suggest you start! Here's our Top 5 Winter walks around the Harrogate District: Swinsty/Fewston Reservoir If you're looking for a picturesque walk that isn't just a quick trip, then the 6 mile route around Swinsty and Fewston Reservoirs is a great place to visit! The family-friendly walk isn't too strenuous for youngsters and has plenty of ramps to make it both pushchair and wheelchair-friendly. The most common route is an anticlockwise circuit from Swinsty Moor and Fewston Reservoir carpark but can be taken the other way too. Keep an eye our for England Manager Gareth Southgate, who has been known to walk the famous route... Fountains Abbey The beautiful estate at Fountains Abbey in Ripon has miles of footpaths and trails to be explored and is the ideal place for a Winter walk. The pictures they've put out on their social media channels are enough to entice walkers from all over, with the Woodland High Ride path and walks through the high-sided Seven Bridges Valley looking particularly attractive in the frost and snow! Valley Gardens Valley Gardens is always a popular walk and it's right on the doorstep for Harrogate residents! There's a very enjoyable play park and skate park for the little ones to get stuck into and saw plenty of visits from families throughout lockdown. Another great Winter walk that is made even more beautiful by the frosty weather. The Great Yorkshire Showground If you've been to The Great Yorkshire Showground recently you'll have seen that the word is already out on this particular Winter walk! Dog walkers and families have discovered just how perfect the showground is for a leisurely walk, which can begin from either Fodder or Indulge depending on where you live. The walk can be as long or as short as you'd prefer, so can be perfect for littles or for a lengthy dog walk. RHS Harlow Carr Another not-so-hidden gem within the Harrogate area are the beautiful gardens at RHS Harlow Carr. Beginning near the garden’s entrance, the 315m Winter Walk showcases a variety of colourful plants to bring light even in the cold and dark months.
