Saint Michael's hospice launches 'Hospice100 challenge' fundraiser

St Michael's Hospice has launched a new fitness challenge to encourage people to get active and raise vital funds to support local people with terminal illness and bereavement.

A Harrogate Hospice care charity has launched a fun new fitness challenge to encourage people to get active this spring and raise vital funds to support local people with terminal illness and bereavement.

Saint Michael’s 'Hospice100 challenge', which takes place during May, is an easy way for people of all ages and abilities to get motivated, get outside and make a difference - one step at a time.

Participants are invited to choose any activity with a 100-based theme – and raise £100 in sponsorship. The Hospice100 challenge could be anything from running, walking, cycling, swimming  - or even scooting - 100 miles or kilometres, to taking on 100 burpees or aiming to get active for 100 minutes a day.

Keen runner from Harrogate and a supporter of St Michael's Jacqui Havercroft has already signed up to the challenge. She said:
"I know how important getting outside is to me for my health and wellbeing, particularly during lockdown. I’m going to be challenging myself to run 100 miles in May, doing something which I enjoy but will be challenging. "If I can use this challenge to keep myself motivated and make a difference to Saint Michael’s, then it makes the whole experience worth it. I like the fact that it’s so flexible – If I can’t run it all, I can walk or cycle too."

Tony Collins, Chief Executive of Saint Michael’s Hospice said:

"Each week, we help hundreds of local people affected by terminal illness and bereavement and members of our HOME team travel hundreds of miles across the district, offering care to patients in the comfort and safety of their own homes.

"If people can join our Hospice 100 challenge and raise £100 it could help fund a daily package of care for someone affected by terminal illness in their own home, it could help us provide 10 provide tasty, home-cooked meals for ten patients at our hospice, or it could help provide a package of resources to support children or young people with their emotional wellbeing or bereavement during the pandemic.

"Every journey starts with a single step and we hope individuals and families will enjoy the chance to get outside, challenge themselves and make a real difference to the lives of local people living with terminal illness and bereavement.”

Entry is free and all participants will receive a branded t-shirt, fundraising pack and lots of support to help reach the £100 target. Register here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/hospice-100-challenge-tickets-146783339921 or go to www.saintmichaelshospice.org.
