Ripon New Year's Eve fireworks display cancelled

Ripon City Council has announced that its planned New Year's Eve fireworks display is cancelled. The fireworks were due to take place in Ripon Market Square tomorrow (Friday 31st December) to celebrate the start of 2022. But the council has cited "reasons outside of their control" as to why the midnight display cannot proceed. A follow-up announcement with more details is expected imminently. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=4650956108287453&id=414576135258826 The New Year's Eve celebrations at both Ripon Market Square and Ripon Cathedral are expected to go ahead however. Ripon Market Square will be hosting festivities in the form of live music from Boy Band and Oasis tribute acts. There will also be hot food and drink stalls selling soft drinks and snacks - all starting from 9:30pm until shortly before midnight. The celebrations extend to Ripon Cathedral, which will be hosting its annual Watchnight service from 11:15pm-11:45pm. This is followed by a procession to join the celebrations in Market Square to see in the New Year at midnight. Read more local stories from Your Harrogate here.
