One of the Harrogate district's most famous shops is now under new ownership. Well-known local businessman Keith Tordoff MBE has successfully sold the 'Oldest Sweet Shop in the World' in Pateley Bridge. It's been bought by 23 year old entrepreneur Ben Howie. He's already handling orders coming through the shop's website, and will welcome customers back to the shop when government restrictions on non-essential retailers are set to be eased on 12th April. Retired police officer Keith put the historic business up for sale last year in order to pursue his ambition to become North Yorkshire's new Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC). The election was due to be held in May 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, was postponed to 6th May 2021. Keith Tordoff MBE said:

“There are huge socio-economic challenges facing the police and fire services in the fallout from COVID. "People in North Yorkshire can be assured that, if elected, I will work tirelessly with the Chief Constable, Chief Fire Officer, councils and Government to provide a safe place for them to live, work or if they are visiting.”
