A license has been granted that could allow for the opening of a new Wetherspoons in Wetherby.
JD Wetherspoon bought the Sant Angelo restaurant in Wetherby in 2022 and was given planning permission to develop the premises.
And at a Leeds Council licensing hearing earlier this week, ‘Spoons’ was told it could serve alcohol until 12am on weekdays and 1am on weekends.
The new premises will be called ‘The Angel’ after the pub that was once based at the site.
Nigel Connor was representing Wetherspoons at the hearing.
He said:
"Food sales will be crucial to this pub. There is no happy hour, no time-related promotions.
"We have policies and procedures to prevent excessive consumption of alcohol."
There were two letters of objection submitted to the council from nearby residents amid concerns of potential “public nuisance”.
But Wetherby councillor Norma Harrington said ‘most local people’ had no objections to the new Wetherspoons.
