An inspirational local schoolgirl has donated her hair to charity after reading about a girl who couldn’t grow her own.
6-year-old Olivia, who lives in Thirsk, was inspired by a story she read at school about a child who was ‘overjoyed’ upon receiving a wig.
Wanting to help in a similar way, Olivia arranged to have her hair cut so it could be donated to The Little Princess Trust.
The charity provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or conditions such as Alopecia.
Olivia had the chop yesterday (8th April).
Speaking about her motivation, Olivia said:
“I hope my hair goes to a little princess and makes this princess very happy.”
Olivia has also been raising money to support the charity’s work.
She set an initial target of £200 but has already raised £463 at the time of publication.
One donator said:
“Well done Olivia! You are such an inspiration, don't ever change!”
