Harrogate Town top goalscorer hoping for positive impact against former club

Harrogate Town are set to host Salford City this weekend in League Two. And Town's Luke Armstrong - the club's leading goalscorer - has admitted it would be "lovely" to score against his former side. The forward spent two years at Salford and endured a torrid time in which he was in and out of the team. Speaking about his time at the Peninsula Stadium, Luke told Your Harrogate:

"It wasn't great to be honest. To go there and not really play felt like a wasted year. "I was in and out of the team in my first season and once they made some signings I never really got a sniff at all. "It was a tough time and I don't really like being away from home, so that was tough, especially when you're not playing."
Speaking ahead of the weekend's fixture, Luke said the result is the most important thing - although he'd love to get on the scoresheet. He added:
"I just want to go out and enjoy myself. It would be lovely to get a goal against them but that's the same as in any game! "I think I proved the point in my performances so far this season that it wasn't that I wasn't good enough for League Two, but that Salford wasn't quite the right fit for me. "You want to do well against your former club but it's about getting the result however we can do that."
The forward has hit the ground running since his move to Town and has scored nine league goals so far this campaign - including one on his debut. And he admitted he's loving life at Harrogate. Luke said:
"I've absolutely loved it so far and it's gone better than I ever imagined and I'm sure everyone in Harrogate is thinking exactly the same with how well we've done! "We're a third of the way through the season so where we are is no fluke."
