Harrogate Town boss fired up for 'important' Yorkshire derby

Harrogate Town prepare to take on Bradford City in a Yorkshire derby this weekend with more than local bragging rights on the line.

Harrogate Town prepare to take on Bradford City in a Yorkshire derby this weekend with more than local bragging rights on the line. A positive result for Town, or if results go their way elsewhere, could secure their Football League status for another season - whilst visitors Bradford are still in the play-off hunt. Manager Simon Weaver said he's looking forward to the clash tomorrow (Saturday 17th April) and is hoping for a passionate performance from his side:

"There will be a lot at stake, not least the fact that it’s inevitable that there’s more common denominators between the two clubs because of the local derby. "Whether you’re 10 years old playing in a local league or playing in the professional game, they’re so important and get the juices flowing and we’re really looking forward to it.

"Being at home we’ve got to drive home every advantage. Come Saturday night we want to be really satisfied with a passionate performance. We’ll be going all out."

Town currently sit in 17th place and 13 points from the relegation zone. With just five games left in the League Two season, a win would be enough to ensure Harrogate Town are mathematically safe for another season. And Manager Simon Weaver believes his side will have achieved their primary objective if they are able to stay in the division:

“No one was daft by making silly predictions or aims, because that would’ve been wrong on the squad. We’ve done it twice in the last three years (won promotion) and we have to be realistic, its a league of giant clubs and so is the top half of the league below!

"It’s a year of transition and if we achieve it this weekend then there’s a big element of thinking it is job done, as that was the main objective at the start of the season."

“I was delighted with the spirit of the squad after coming back three times from three different disappointments, obviously missing the penalty adding to the mishaps that lead to the goals but the character was there for everyone to see.

"We’ve got a good group of honest lads and they gave their all, and that’s all that any supporter or any member of staff can wish for."
