Harrogate mum sends heartfelt 'thank you' to her son's teacher

Serena Wilson has sent a heartfelt 'thank you' to her autistic son's teacher for getting him settled into a new school during the pandemic.

A mum from Harrogate has sent a heartfelt 'thank you' to her son's teacher for her hard work in getting him settled into a new school during the pandemic. As part of Your Harrogate's 'Breakfast Heroes', we've been on the lookout for those special people in the area who have gone the extra mile to help others. And Serena Wilson, whose son has autism, joined Nick Hancock at breakfast this morning to thank Mrs Smith at Forest School in Knaresborough. Serena said:

"Bev has been an amazing support for our family and for our son who has autism. She's helped him settle in to a new school as throughout the whole pandemic we haven't been able to do a transition properly - she's made it absolutely amazing from the start. "She's put lots of different things in place for him and he's settled in really really well. She's the one to go to for advice, she distributes it to her team and you can just see all her experience just flows through her."
Forest School in Knaresborough is a specialist primary school for children with special educational needs, and Mrs Smith has been supporting both Serena and her son Charlie in getting him settled. Speaking directly to her on the radio, Serena wanted to thank Bev for her dedication and hard work:
"Good morning Mrs Smith - I just want to say a huge thank you for touching our hearts and our family with what you have done - and what you do for so many other families. "This is a great big thank you for all your hard work and particularly at this point of the pandemic as well."
