A Harrogate athlete has broken the British record for the 3,000m event.
George Mills, son of former Leeds United star Danny Mills, broke Josh Kerr’s UK 3,000m record on Sunday (2nd February).
He was competing at de l’Eure in Val-de-Reuil - a World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver meeting.
The 25-year-old set a new record of 7 minutes and 27 seconds in France, smashing the record by three seconds.
His previous best was 7 minutes and 54 seconds.
Mills’ record time places him at number 9 in the world all-time indoor rankings, ahead of some of the sport’s biggest names including Eliud Kipchoge and Mo Farah.
