Former players of a Harrogate junior football club are lacing up their boots once again in memory of a much-loved fan.
Ex-players of New Park Bulldogs FC will be playing in a charity football match to fundraise in memory of Dave Hellewell, affectionately known as ‘Grandad Dave’.
Dave passed away last year and was cared for in his final days by St Michael’s Hospice, who are the chosen charity for the event.
He was an avid supporter of the club’s successful period between 2014-2022, and was known and loved by players, coaches and parents throughout.
The match will kick off at 1pm on Saturday 27th July at Darley Playing fields on Station Road.
Dan McCulloch, a former player and Dave’s grandson, said:
“All of the lads are very excited to get back on the pitch and it will be great to see some familiar faces from the club’s past years.
"St. Michael’s unwavering support and care for my grandad is something my family are extremely grateful for, and we are really looking forward to the opportunity to play in memory of such a great man, as well as a fantastic local cause.”
There will be a raffle, BBQ and donation buckets on the day for anyone who wishes to donate to St Michael's Hospice.
Those unable to attend are able to contribute to the fundraising campaign via JustGiving here.
