Harrogate businesses go purple for Saint Michael's Hospice

Businesses across the Harrogate district are showing support for Saint Michael’s Hospice by going purple for Hospice Care Week.

Running from 4th until 8th October, Hospice Care Week celebrates hospice care nationwide.

And as purple is the signature colour for Saint Michael’s hospice charity, Victoria Shopping Centre, among others, is getting involved in the celebration.

The centre has turned on purple lighting outside, installed an information and craft stall on the second floor of the centre, and tomorrow (Thursday), Harrogate’s Spa Town Ukes will be performing at 11.30am.

This is in addition to the special Saint Michael’s Wishing Well where shoppers can donate spare change.

Saint Michael’s chief executive Tony Collins said:

"We are very grateful to our community for joining with us to raise awareness and funds to support local people living with terminal illness and bereavement. Our services are very much in demand and your support allows us to continue to be there for local people at the most difficult of times.”

“£100 could help a member of our specialist HOME service provide a package of care for someone affected by terminal illness, helping them remain in the place they feel most safe and comfortable, surrounded by the people and things that matter most.”

Purple window displays are springing up across the town including Helen James Florists and Hustle and Co on Prince Albert Row, A-Plan and Hart and Hart on Commercial Street, Saint Michael’s own community stores, and on Starbeck High Street.

Asda, Waitrose and Marks & Spencers are holding in-store collections each day from Monday 4th October until Friday 8th October to allow shoppers to donate.

Anyone wishing to support Saint Michael’s by ‘turning purple’ in the future, can request a special participation pack which will be available throughout the year by registering at https://saintmichaelshospice.org/events/go-purple-for-saint-michaels/ or email lturner@saintmichaelshospice.org.
