It’s a route they all know well, so no danger of anyone getting lost on the way!
A hardy team from The Harrogate Bus Company set out to follow their own route 1 all the way from Harrogate to Knaresborough… not by bus, but on foot.
The exercise was all in a good cause, to raise vital funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research’s We Walk for Yorkshire campaign, which is already just over halfway to reaching its £100,000 target.
Every 17 minutes, someone in Yorkshire is told they have cancer – and all funds raised through the charity challenge will fund research to find a cure for more people in the White Rose County.

Managing Director of the bus firm’s parent company Transdev, Henri Rohard, and Operations Director Vitto Pizzuti joined the team of 12 to complete Saturday’s four-mile walk in one hour and 20 minutes.
Henri said:
“Yorkshire Cancer Research became our charity partner just over a year ago, and since then we’ve helped in various ways to raise awareness of the world-leading research and services funded by them to help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer in our region.
“Any colleague and public awareness on cancer prevention is vital, and of course every penny raised during the We Walk For Yorkshire campaign is going to support this vital, lifesaving work, and as a team we were determined to help and to support.
“We’ve already raised almost £400 from donations collected along the route of the walk and afterwards, and we appreciate every penny we’ve received.
“Our Route 1 electric buses travel between Harrogate and Knaresborough every 8 to 10 minutes, and complete the journey in as little as 13 minutes. We didn’t quite manage that pace on foot, but I’m very proud of our team who completed the challenge for this excellent cause.”
