Grove Road give update following 'overwhelming' response to Emergency Appeal last month

Grove Road Primary School have given an update on their situation following the 'overwhelming response' their emergency appeal received.

Grove Road Community Primary School have given an update on their current situation following the 'overwhelming response' they received to their emergency appeal last month.

Bubble closures at the Harrogate school at the beginning of November meant that approximately 140 children and several members of staff were forced to self-isolate for 14 days, casting several families into crisis. And now the school and their families are thriving following the generous support they received from the Harrogate community. The Appeal

Grove Road put out an appeal via social media initially for donations to help support the families who were self-isolating, requesting donations of food, ICT equipment for online learning and small gifts that could be given to the children to help them through such a challenging period.

The food donations that the school then received were made available to families who receive Free School Meals and also to any family who, due to sudden changes in circumstances as a result of the new restrictions, found themselves struggling but might not be able to access Free School Meals.

Impact on School Community

The initial appeal was to support families for a 2-week period; however the generosity of the local community has meant that they have been able to support not only the school, but also other local Harrogate Schools who may have families in need of additional support.

Grove Road have continued to provide food hampers to the most vulnerable families throughout November and December.

They also received some ICT equipment, and cash donations for ICT equipment, that is being set up for school use and will be loaned to any child who needs to self-isolate and doesn’t have adequate access to devices to allow them to take part in online learning.

When is it not required for home learning, it will be used in school as part of Grove Road's catch up programme.
