Children across the Harrogate area have been celebrating their favourite books as part of World Book Day today (Thursday).
The annual event sees children dress up as their favourite character before taking part in literary-themed activities at school.
World Book Day aims to encourage children to read and celebrate books, but also to give less fortunate children access to their own through fundraising.
It's run each year by the World Book Day charity, who believe reading for fun can be a life-changing.
A spokesperson for the charity said:
"Reading for fun is the single biggest indicator that a child will grow up to enjoy a happier and more successful life – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational backgrounds or their income.
"We believe children are more likely to read if they enjoy it, so we’re on a mission to encourage them to see reading as an entertaining, social and fun thing to do.
"We want more children to grow up with a life-long, life-changing habit of reading for fun, and all the benefits this brings."
