Farmers are invited to get free advice from an array of land and legal experts to help guide their business futures, over a free breakfast at the Great Yorkshire Show.
Back by popular demand and brand new for the Show, the Navigating the Budget event at the Ariat GYS Stage from 8am to 9.30am on Friday 11th July has been organised by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society following its hugely successful roadshow around Yorkshire which was attended by more than 300 farmers.
Once inside the Showground, the session is completely free to attend. It brings farmers in front of respected experts who are ready with lots of helpful, practical advice to help farming businesses plan for the future.
Guidance is specifically tailored around how farmers can adapt to proposed changes to Agricultural and Business Property Relief that would affect inheritance tax, as announced in the Autumn Budget.
David Tite, Society Manager at the Yorkshire Agricultural Society said:
“This event has attracted hundreds of farmers across Yorkshire and has been very well received.
"We wanted to bring it to the Great Yorkshire Show so that more farmers have the chance to access practical advice to help them plan for the future, completely free of charge.”
Navigating the Budget opens with a free breakfast, followed by presentations and a Q&A.
Visitors are asked to register their free place in advance by visiting https://greatyorkshireshow.co.uk/farmers/ or email yrsn@yas.co.uk
Offering advice at the event will be:
- Duncan Winspear from Savills will discuss key ways to understand business strengths and weaknesses to make better decisions and will review sources of income to maximise profits and reduce business risk.
- Chris Humphreys of BHP Accountants will walk through how to plan tax affairs in an uncertain economic and political landscape.
- Orlando Bridgeman from Wrigleys Solicitors will talk about the questions that arise from his belief that the proposed changes are likely to see more lifetime gifts taking place to avoid an inheritance tax charge on death.
- Heather Wildman of Saviour Associates will discuss how the proposed policy changes impact succession planning.
Navigating the Budget is one of a series of free events specifically tailored for farmers at the Great Yorkshire Show.
The Show’s bigger and better Innovation Zone both showcases the latest agri-tech and research and features a daily programme of short talks, covering everything from livestock health to the role of innovation in future-proofing the industry.
Farmers can take a soil sample from their farm to be analysed at a drop-in Soil Doctor clinic and on Thursday at 4pm, rural women are invited to a Women In Farming social to enjoy strawberries and cream and hear from guest speaker, Lucia Slack, a Nuffield Farming Scholar sponsored by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.
Health and wellbeing will be in focus at the Countryside Area where two talks at the Countryside Voices Stage on Tuesday will explore rural wellbeing.
At 11.30am, a panel will discuss developing support and building resilience around mental health and at 2.30pm, the topic turns to the challenges rural communities face to maintain good physical health. The 11.30am panel chat is repeated at the same time on Thursday.
At the Ariat GYS Stage from 7.45am on Wednesday, Future Farmers of Yorkshire’s Breakfast Meeting will offer practical ways to improve profitability.
