Decline in booster uptake at Harrogate's vaccination centre ahead of Christmas Day

Harrogate's vaccination centre at the Great Yorkshire Showground has noticed a decline in uptake of the booster jab this week.

Harrogate's vaccination centre at the Great Yorkshire Showground has noticed a decline in uptake of the booster jab as we approach Christmas Day. The vaccination centre had been administering around 1,700 jabs per day, including for the 12-17 age group. However in the days leading up to Christmas Day, less people are attending the centre according to Operations Manager Tim Yarrow. He told Your Harrogate:

"We’ve got our staff in ready to vaccinate anyone that is willing and able to get down here. "We have got fewer staff on site because we’ve seen a decline in uptake. I think because people are being a little bit cautious in case they feel a bit grotty before Christmas.

"Please bear in mind that it takes time for your immunity to see the benefit from the vaccine, so it’s probably worthwhile getting it done sooner rather than later in time for the New Year."

The vaccination centre at the Yorkshire Event Centre is open from 8:30am-5pm today and from 8:30am-12:30am tomorrow (Christmas Eve). They are taking booked appointments and walk-ins for all age groups (12 and above). Talking about the team at the vaccination centre, Tim said:

"We couldn’t do it without the support of the volunteers that we have - they have been absolutely astounding, just stepping back in and helping us run this place."
