UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced there will be a national clap at 6pm tonight (Wednesday 3rd February) in memory of Sir Captain Tom Moore. Making the announcement via Twitter, Number 10 have asked people to join in at 6pm tonight in memory of the World War II veteran who passed away yesterday and to celebrate the efforts of NHS staff that he helped with his fundraising. https://twitter.com/10DowningStreet/status/1356936857054019586 The statement, released via the 10 Downing Street Twitter account, said:

"Tonight at 6pm we will clap to honour the life of Sir Captain Tom Moore and all those health workers who he recognised with his fundraising."
It was announced yesterday that Captain Tom had died after contracting pneumonia and then testing positive for Covid-19. Since the news broke tributes have been pouring in from across the UK, with famous faces including The Queen and David Beckham also paying tribute. Sir Tom rose to fame last year when he walked 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday to raise more than £32m for the NHS. Read more local stories from Your Harrogate here.
