Banking hub announced for Knaresborough town centre

Knaresborough has been chosen as one of five towns to receive a new shared banking hub.

Knaresborough has been chosen as one of five towns to receive a new shared banking hub. Residents can currently only access cash from the town's two ATMs or the post office. But the new scheme will see banking services provided by several major banks, with representatives set to rotate in Knaresborough town centre. Barclays, HSBC UK, Lloyds Banking Group, Nationwide Building Society, NatWest, Santander UK, TSB and Danske Bank have agreed to the new approach. And alongside Knaresborough, Acton (London), Brixham (Devon), Carnoustie (Angus), and Syston (Leicestershire) have been chosen to take part. https://twitter.com/natceeney/status/1470989289282588672

Bank hubs involve banks working jointly to offer basic cash services on high streets, with spaces for people to speak to their own bank.

Each bank may offer its own services from a hub, on different days of the week.

Natalie Ceeney, Chair of Access to Cash Review, said:

"I’m delighted that the industry is committing to ensuring that the cash needs of consumers and small businesses up and down the UK will continue to be met.

"We know that demand for cash is declining, but we also know that it continues to play a vital part in the lives of at least five million people in the UK – including some of the most vulnerable in society."

Communities will be able to request a review of their banking needs from the summer of 2022.
