A workshop aiming to equip participants with the skills and confidence to read, understand, and follow a commercial dressmaking pattern.

Objective:
To equip participants with the skills and confidence to read, understand, and follow a commercial dressmaking pattern. Using the Luella skirt pattern from Tilly & The Buttons, learners will create a beautifully finished skirt for themselves or someone else. By the end of the course, participants will have a solid introduction to dressmaking techniques and the ability to approach future garment projects with greater independence.
WEEK 1 How to read a dressmaking pattern envelope and preparing to make the skirt · Back of the envelope details and what they mean · What’s in the pattern envelope · Design decisions · Fabric selections · Size options · Taking body measurements · Cutting out the pattern
WEEK 2 Cutting out fabric pieces and starting to sew · Cutting out fabric · Marking notches · Start construction process
WEEK 3 Skirt Construction · Sewing side seams · Adding pockets · Creating first tier · Constructing waistband
WEEK 4 Complete skirt construction and hemming · Sewing second and third tiers · Hemming
The Luella Skirt pattern from Tilly & The Buttons is included in the price of this course, together with thread and waist elastic. You just need to bring along your chosen fabric.
