Parents and carers in Harrogate are being encouraged to book an eye test for their children before the new school year begins.
Specsavers Harrogate is highlighting that NHS-funded eye tests are available for children aged under 16, with some glasses also covered.
The opticians said sight problems can affect a child’s learning and may not always be easy for parents to identify.
Caroline Sullivan, ophthalmic director at Specsavers Harrogate and Skipton, said:
“We know that children can fall behind in school if they are struggling to see clearly, and a pair of glasses can sometimes be such an easy fix.
“You might not know that your child is struggling to see if they don’t tell you, but there are some signs you might be able to spot.”
Possible warning signs include sensitivity to light, headaches, tired eyes, sitting too close to the television and frequently rubbing their eyes.
Caroline added:
“Even if you haven’t spotted any of these signs, Specsavers recommends that children have an eye test at least every two years.”
