A Harrogate-based instructor is promoting inclusive Zumba sessions for children following the success of her Easter workshops.
Sarah Ellison is the owner of BrightStart Phonics and Zumbini & Zumba, which runs classes focused on her ethos around fun, inclusive exercise for children.
It highlights the growing need for supportive, pressure-free spaces, particularly for families with children who may benefit from a different approach.
Sarah Ellison runs children’s classes under the BrightStart name, combining phonics support with Zumbini and Zumba-style sessions for young people.
The sessions take place at Yorkshire Create in Knaresborough, which hosts a range of community activities.
Sarah said her classes are designed to be inclusive and accessible to children of different abilities.
She said:
"With increasing pressures on the education system and more families exploring alternative paths, including home education, I’ve found myself speaking with parents who are making significant changes to support their children’s wellbeing.
"Many of these families have children with additional needs and are looking for spaces where their children can feel comfortable, understood, and able to thrive. This is exactly why my classes exist."
Sarah added:
“For me, Zumba isn’t just about fitness, it’s about creating a space where children can move freely, build confidence, and most importantly, have fun.
“Every child is different, and my sessions are designed to be inclusive, welcoming, and completely pressure-free.
“There’s no ‘right’ way to dance, just an opportunity to enjoy music, express yourself, and feel part of something positive.”
She added that her aim is to provide a space where children can take part in physical activity in a way that suits them.
She said:
“My aim is to continue offering something a little different within the local area, a class for all, with inclusivity at its heart.
“If you’re looking for a fun and friendly way for your child to stay active, build confidence, and simply enjoy being themselves, I’d love to welcome you along.”
