Whixley Women's Institute celebrates 100th anniversary

Members of Whixley Women's Institute.

Whixley Women's Institute has celebrated its centenary with a special afternoon bringing together past and present members.

Around 40 guests attended the 100th anniversary celebration on Tuesday 7th July, including North Yorkshire Federation Chair Helen Lane, Linda Cariss and members from Goldsborough, Castle Belles, Kirk Hammerton and Green Hammerton Women's Institutes.

President Linda Meikle welcomed guests before everyone sang Jerusalem and enjoyed a buffet lunch.

She later proposed a toast, thanking members for their 'enthusiasm, support and hard work' over the years, with some having been involved in Whixley W.I. for decades.

A centenary cake was cut before Whixley's resident entertainer Damien Poole provided the afternoon's entertainment.

Guests also looked back through archive photographs and memories from the institute's history, giving members the chance to reflect on the group's first 100 years.
