A team of charitable runners from Wetherby Racecourse have raised more than £7,000 for charity after taking on the Great North Run.
The half marathon course, widely considered to be the biggest in the world, took place on Sunday 8th September and saw participants run between Newcastle upon Tyne and South Shields.
And the Wetherby Races team, made up of Maddy Clarke, Sara Martin and Michelle Campbell, have collectively raised £7,238 in sponsorship.
They decided to fundraise for Spinal Research, a charity with whom they have a long-standing relationship having hosted their Northern Charity Raceday for over 34 years.
Michelle told Your Harrogate:
“Alongside all of the wonderful people we have met through the charity over the years, our inspiration for running this year is Yorkshire-based jockey Graham Lee, who suffered a catastrophic Spinal Injury from a racing fall in November 2023.
“We are not runners, we did not train as much as we should have, but we totally enjoyed the day, despite the abysmal weather!
“We ran it all, we finished with times better than we anticipated and we are all injury free, and are going to continue running.”

The team are leaving their JustGiving page open until the beginning of October.
