Ripon's new Tesco superstore will open its doors this week - and with a familiar face set to cut the ribbon.
On Thursday, (20th November), Julian Norton, local veterinary surgeon, author and TV personality, is expected to officially open the store at 12pm.
He will be joined by the Ripon Hornblower, the Ripon Mace Bearer, local community members and pupils from nearby schools.
Tesco’s management team will also be in attendance as they mark the launch of the newly refurbished site.
The opening follows Tesco’s purchase and refit of the former Booths store on Marshall Way earlier this year.
Store Manager Richard Butcher said:
“We are extremely excited to be opening our new store and helping to serve the local community.
"We want to offer great value to our customers and the benefits of Tesco Clubcard and Clubcard Prices.
“Colleagues have moved across from the old store and have brought great experience and local knowledge.”
The opening hours of the new Tesco superstore in Ripon are Monday to Saturday 7am to 10pm, 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
Alongside groceries and household essentials, Tesco Ripon is also providing a £1,000 grant to Ripon’s Community House, which supports a range of local groups and services.
The launch comes ahead of Tesco’s annual Winter Food Collection in partnership with FareShare and the Trussell Trust, taking place from 27th to 29th November.
Customers will be invited to donate long-life food items to help meet increased demand for support during the colder months.
The supermarket will continue to support community initiatives through Tesco’s Stronger Starts scheme, which offers quarterly grants of £500, £1,000 or £1,500 to charities and groups working with children, young people and families. Awards are determined by customer votes using blue tokens in store.
Since 2015, Tesco’s Community Food Connection programme has also redistributed more than 220 million meals to charities across the UK, with Ripon set to be part of the ongoing effort.
Applications for Stronger Starts grants can be made online, and further information about Tesco’s community programmes is available here.
