A Harrogate care home is embracing the yuletide season by opening its doors for a special reminiscence event.
Harcourt Gardens, on Harcourt Road, is inviting people to revisit traditions from Christmas past by joining residents and team members on Saturday 6th December from 2pm–4pm.
The event is part of Care UK’s Step into Christmas initiative, which aims to rekindle festive customs that residents remember from their childhood by reliving them and sharing them with the local community.
Wilfred Mulryne, a resident at Harcourt Gardens, said:
“I remember going on a Christmas walk every year and listening to the radio as we had no TV in those days, so I’m excited to relive these memories of traditional songs performed at the event.”
On the day, Harcourt Gardens will be hosting its own 1950s ‘Rock around the Clock’ Christmas fair, complete with fancy dress, a 50s quiz and live entertainment from Chris Raddings, who will be performing his by Elvis and Cliff Richard.
Jillian Shearer, Customer Relations Manager at Harcourt Gardens, said:
“Christmas is such a special time of year, and this event allows us to honour the memories from residents’ childhoods, bringing them to life once again.
“This is also a wonderful opportunity to unite the community, celebrate the season and pass on traditions that may otherwise be forgotten.
“We’d like to encourage local people to join us to celebrate the festive season and bring the memories of Christmas past to Harrogate.”
