Second arrest made after cattle theft in Ripley

Police have made two arrests after cattle was stolen in Ripley.

A second man has been arrested as North Yorkshire Police continue to investigate the theft of cattle from a farm near Ripley.

Officers say a 70-year-old man was arrested on Thursday afternoon on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary with intent to steal. He remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

It follows the arrest of a man in his 30s on Wednesday night, who has since been released on bail with conditions. Those conditions include restrictions preventing him from entering North Yorkshire except for specified reasons.

Police have also confirmed that all seven stolen cattle have been recovered and are fit and well.

Five of the animals have now been returned to their owners, while the remaining two are still undergoing identification checks before they can be reunited.

The investigation remains ongoing.
