Remembrance Day: Your guide to services across the Harrogate district

Last year's memorial service in Harrogate.

Ahead of Remembrance Day this weekend, we take a look at events and services taking place across the Harrogate district.

Harrogate  

  • Festival of Remembrance (7th November): St Peter's Church will hold a service at 7:30pm. Tickets are £10, with concessions for under-16s at £5. 
  • War Memorial in Town Centre (10th November): at 10:30am, a parade and wreath-laying ceremony are poised to draw a considerable crowd at the War Memorial in Harrogate town centre.
  • Remembrance Sunday service (10th November): There will be a Sunday service of remembrance at St Paul's Church, Harrogate.
  • Stonefall Cemetery (10th November): At 1pm, a parade will be held within the cemetery followed by a service and wreath-laying organised by the Harrogate Brigantes Rotary Club. 
  • Starbeck Remembrance Service (10th November): Starbeck community remembrance service will take place at 3pm at the Starbeck Cenotaph. There will be a parade heading down the High Street which will then be followed by a service and wreath laying. 

Knaresborough

  • Knaresborough Remembrance Parade (10th November): The parade will begin at 9:30am at St John's Church. The parade will then proceed from the church to the war memorial in the castle grounds. At 11am, there will be a two-minute silence, followed by a service of remembrance at the memorial.

Ripon

  • Concert of Remembrance (7th November): The concert will begin at 7:15pm at Ripon Cathedral. Tickets cost £16.96.
  • Civic Service of Remembrance, Ripon (10th November): Ripon Cathedral’s Sung Eucharist will be at 9.30am. There will be an act of commemoration in the Spa Gardens at 10.50am, followed by members of 21 Engineer Regiment parading through the city for a service in the cathedral at 11.40am.
  • Songs and Poems of Remembrance (10th November): The event will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Ripon and will start at 3pm. It will feature the Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, as well as tenor Nick Watts and pianist David Cowan. Tickets cost £25, but entry for students and children is free.

Boroughbridge

  • Boroughbridge Service (10th November): The service will begin at St James Church at 10am. There will be a reading by the mayor of Boroughbridge.
  • Minskip Service (10th November): There will be a Sunday service of remembrance at St John's Church from 10am.

Pateley Bridge

  • Pateley Bridge and Bewerley Service (11th November): A service will be held at Pateley Bridge and Bewerley memorial hall at 11am.
