Rachel Daly scores penalty as England progress to World Cup quarter final Harrogate-born Rachel Daly was on target in England's World Cup penalty shootout victory over Nigeria this morning. The Lionesses drew 0-0 with Nigeria after extra time to take the tie into a penalty shootout. After a nail-biting conclusion, England won 4-2 to progress to the quarter finals of the competition. The match saw Lauren James sent off for violent conduct at the Brisbane Stadium in Australia. But shootout strikes from Beth England, Alex Greenwood, Chloe Kelly and Rachel Daly saw England through. Rachel Daly, who played for Killinghall Nomads as a youngster, scored her first World Cup goal in England's 6-1 thrashing of China last week. England will now play either Colombia or Jamaica in the quarter finals on Saturday (12th August). Read more local stories from Your Harrogate here.
