Otley Road is set to face fresh disruption in the New Year as a major programme of utility works gets underway across Harrogate and Knaresborough.
From 5th January to 15th February 2026, Northern Powergrid will close a stretch of Otley Road to continue work on its 33kV electricity scheme.
The project, being carried out by Balfour Beatty, will also require temporary traffic lights on the Prince of Wales roundabout, which links to Leeds Road, West Park and York Place.
Drivers are being advised to expect delays in the area during the works.
The Otley Road closure is one of several schemes planned for early 2026.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Council said:
"Accommodating these varied and competing works in the area remains challenging, but it is necessary to facilitate these to ensure the community sees the improvements and repairs needed to the utility infrastructure, such as water and electrics.
"North Yorkshire Council Officers continue to help facilitate the works and are in communication with the applicants to ensure these are delivered effectively on our highway network.
"It should be recognised however that each of the applicants for the works, whether developers or utilities manage and oversee their own contractors and traffic management companies.”
Between 5th and 16th January, temporary lights will be in place on Hookstone Road and Hornbeam Park Avenue as Northern Powergrid completes work to enable a new electrical connection.
From 20th January to 1st March, Harrogate Spring Water will install new pipework, with rolling temporary lights operating along Oaker Bank.
Yorkshire Water is planning overnight works on Kings Road on 19th and 20th January, with a road closure in place from 9pm to 6am while the company carries out sewer desilting.
Temporary lights will be used on Skipton Road at the same time. Elsewhere, temporary lights will be needed on Harrogate Road in Knaresborough from 5th to 13th January while a new meter is installed.
Quickline is also scheduled to carry out evening works under temporary traffic lights on Harrogate Road in early January.
