North Rigton Primary marks 175th anniversary

A primary school near Harrogate has welcomed families and residents to celebrate its 175th anniversary.

North Rigton CE Primary School marked the milestone with a special event on the first day of the new term.

Guests enjoyed refreshments and a celebratory cake while reflecting on the school’s history and its continuing role at the heart of the community.

An exhibition of archive documents was also unveiled as part of the celebrations.

The display charts the school’s journey through the generations, beginning with its original home in a building established as a Sunday school.

Historic material has now been installed along the school’s newly refurbished corridors, allowing pupils, families and visitors to learn more about its heritage.

The school is also inviting families with children due to start primary education next September to arrange a visit.

Headteacher Sophia Gardiner is offering personalised tours, giving prospective pupils and their families an opportunity to meet staff and explore the school.
