New cycle track proposed for Otley Road

Residents are being invited to have their say on proposals for a new cycle track along parts of Otley Road and Pannal Ash Road in Harrogate.

The proposals would see sections of the existing footpath converted into shared routes for pedestrians and cyclists, creating a safer route for people travelling through the area on foot or by bike.

The cycle track forms part of the wider West Harrogate Sustainable Improvement Package, which aims to improve transport links along the busy Otley Road corridor.

As well as the new shared route, the scheme includes upgraded junctions, improved pedestrian crossings and other measures designed to improve traffic flow and make it easier for people to walk, cycle and use public transport.

Residents are now being invited to have their say before a decision is made.

North Yorkshire Council has launched a public consultation and is encouraging anyone who lives, works or travels through the area to review the plans and submit their comments.

A spokesperson for Harrogate Town Council said:

"Following the consultation, all feedback will be carefully reviewed and considered, ensuring that all voices are heard and key points are discussed.

"A further statutory stage under Regulation 4 will then follow."

A public drop-in session will be held at Harlow Hill Methodist Church from 5pm to 8pm on Friday (31st July), where residents and businesses can view the proposals, ask questions and speak directly with members of the project team.

Once the consultation has closed, North Yorkshire Council will consider any feedback and objections received before deciding whether to proceed with the Cycle Track Orders.
