Man arrested after £17,000 cattle theft near Ripley

North Yorkshire Police have made an arrest.

Cattle stolen from a farm near Ripley have been recovered and a man has been arrested, North Yorkshire Police has confirmed.

The seven cattle were taken from a family farm on Sunday night in a theft that police described as having a significant impact on the farming community.

Officers recovered the animals last night and arrested a man in his 30s from West Yorkshire on suspicion of burglary. He remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

The farmer has been informed and arrangements are now being made for the safe return of the cattle.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:

"Rural crime can have a significant impact on farming communities, causing financial loss, disruption to businesses and considerable emotional distress.

"Livestock theft is far more than a property crime. For many farmers, their animals represent years of hard work, investment and dedication."

The force said rural crime remains a priority and highlighted that this year marks the 10th anniversary of its Rural Task Force, which was responsible for making the arrest.

Police also thanked everyone who shared information following the appeal, adding that enquiries remain ongoing.
