A family-run vets in Knaresborough is urging pet owners from across the area to shop around when it comes to providing the best possible care for their beloved animal.
It follows a recent report by the competition watchdog which concluded that vets should be forced to publish price lists so pet owners can see costs up front.
Phil Simon, clinical director and veterinary surgeon at Your Family Vets on Wetherby Road in Knaresborough, agrees with the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) which stated that publishing prices would help owners make more informed decisions and avoid bill shock when they have to provide care for their pet.
Having opened in November 2024, Phil and his team set out to be completely transparent with pricing and believes all vets should do the same.
Phil said:
“As a proud, independent veterinary practice serving Knaresborough, Harrogate and surrounding areas we have always believed pet owners deserve clear and fair pricing and couldn’t agree more with the CMA.
“Since opening our doors last year, we’ve been committed to doing things differently, providing individualised care with transparent pricing, written estimates and prescriptions. This ensures our clients can access the best value for their pet, without compromise.
“According to the CMA, practices owned by large vet groups charge 16.6 per cent more on average than independent vets, so it pays to use local family run practices which not only charge less but also provide unrivalled care and welfare for your pet.”
With Christmas just around the corner, Phil is advising future pet owners also factor vet’s bills into the overall cost of having a pet, particularly with a new puppy or kitten needing inoculations.
Phil added:
“Loving and looking after a pet is an amazing experience and gives a great deal of joy to many people. With the right care and treatment this can last for years and we’d always encourage anyone who’s thinking about becoming a pet owner to go ahead.
“We currently have in place a deal which includes a vaccination covering infectious diseases for cats and dogs* plus a health check by the experienced team for only £10. That way anyone looking to get a pet know they’re in good hands.
“At Your Family Vets, we believe trust and transparency are just as important as excellent clinical care and we’re proud to continue putting pets and their people, first every single day.”
