A Knaresborough man has been recognised for his contribution to the local community after receiving a prestigious award from the town's Lions club.
Martin Brock was presented with a Melvin Jones Fellowship by Knaresborough Lions during a ceremony held on 25th March.
The award is given in recognition of service to both the organisation and the wider community.
A spokesperson for Knaresborough Lions said:
"The Fellowship is the highest award within Lions Clubs International and marks outstanding commitment to the organisation and the local community."
Martin, who currently serves as secretary of the Knaresborough Lions, joined the club in March 2014 after moving to the town.
He previously lived in Torpoint, Cornwall, where his father was a founding member of the local Lions club.
During his time with the organisation, he has held several roles including President, Bed Race chairman and District officer.
The Melvin Jones Fellowship is named after Melvin Jones, who founded the Lions Clubs movement in 1917 as a volunteer-led organisation focused on community service.
The group has since grown to include around 1.4 million members across 50,000 clubs in more than 200 countries.
In Knaresborough, Lions members are involved in organising a number of events throughout the year, including the Bed Race, beer festival and Christmas market, as well as seasonal visits with Santa.
The organisation says at least 80 per cent of funds raised locally are redistributed within the community, supporting schools, social services, healthcare and individuals in need.
