A Knaresborough band were crowned regional champions at the North of England Brass Band Regional Championships over the weekend.
Knaresborough Silver Band’s won gold at the event at the Gala Theatre in Durham on Saturday (22nd March).
The band played Andrea Price's 'I, Daedalus', which tells the Greek mythology story of Icarus flying too close to the sun, under the expert guidance of their Musical Director Nick Garrett.
The competition adjudicator Duncan Beckley MBE said:
“The Band’s performance brought the story to life, they thoroughly deserved to win as they played the piece as I hoped to hear it.”
The band have been invited to represent the North of England at the National Brass Band Championships at Cheltenham in September.
They’ve said they’ll be “working hard over the coming months” to represent Knaresborough to a national audience.
The band rehearse weekly at Gracious Street Methodist Church in Knaresborough, play a range of concerts and community events throughout the year and will be fundraising to support their visit to the National Brass Band Championships competition.
Knaresborough Silver Band’s chairman, Gary Kinder, said:
“This is brilliant for the town of Knaresborough.
"We’re very grateful to all the people in our community who support the band and its players, it’s great to bring home the silverware.”
